On December 19, the USAID Power Central Asia Activity officially handed over new equipment for wind measurements to the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources in Dushanbe, Tajikistan! 🎉
Manuchehr Safarzoda, Deputy Minister of Energy and Water Resources, and Peter Riley, the USAID/Tajikistan Mission Director, shook hands to mark the arrival of a LiDAR unit – equipment that conducts light detection and ranging to calculate wind measurements. The equipment will be used to detect the precise wind direction, speed and turbulence. The data will help the Ministry, developers, and investors in planning for where to install new wind power projects.
Soon, local specialists will get training by the Power Central Asia team on how to use LiDARs to prepare for a measurement campaign at possible sites. ⚡🌱
