The effort to enhance Uzbekistan’s energy sector is underway, representing a promising step towards a more sustainable and economically robust future! 🌱
On October 18, 2023, the USAID Power Central Asia (PCA) Activity hosted a workshop in Tashkent to strengthen the legal framework for economic regulation in Uzbekistan’s energy sector, opened by the Deputy Minister of Energy, Umid Mamadaminov. He emphasized the importance of USAID’s work in creating the draft Electricity Law for Uzbekistan.
The workshop, joined by over 25 participants, held an open discussion of the draft law “On Electricity” and contributing to the government’s efforts to establish a stronger legal and institutional foundation for effective regulation in the electricity sector, capable of attracting investments. Participants came from ministries, interest groups and state-owned and private power companies, and included the Deputy Minister of Energy and the Ministry’s staff; Deputy Chairman of the Committee for the Development of Competition and Protection of Consumer Rights of the Republic of Uzbekistan and Committee personnel.
The PCA team shared international best practices in economic regulation within the energy sector. The knowledge shared will equip key professionals in the energy sector to more efficiently implement the legal and regulatory framework outlined in the draft Electricity Law, which is set to be submitted for approval by the end of 2023.
