Liana is one of the 16 USAID-funded scholars studying for a master’s degree in “Strategic Management in Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency” at the Kazakh-German University (DKU).
After working for several years at the International Green Technologies and Investments Center (IGTIPC), where she explored the best global practices in the field of green technologies, she decided to deepen her knowledge and obtain a degree in this field. Her candidacy for the USAID scholarship program was nominated by the organization she collaborated with – the Kazakh Association of Regional Environmental Initiatives (ECOJER).
Currently, Liana is studying how the implementation of energy storage systems can support renewable energy sources in Kazakhstan. Energy storage systems are a crucial component in increasing the share of renewable energy, and Kazakhstan has set a goal to achieve 50 percent of renewable energy by 2050. The implementation of energy storage systems is extremely important for Kazakhstan in connection with the needs of modernizing the energy system and inadequate energy conservation.
The professors at the Kazakh-German University (DKU) have already helped Liana to significantly expand her knowledge and skills in the field of renewable energy. A number of conferences in which she was able to participate have provided an opportunity to communicate with experts in this field.
The strongest aspects of this program are the professionalism of the teaching staff and the opportunity to study with colleagues from countries such as Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. This contributes to a valuable exchange of knowledge and obtaining a comprehensive view of the current situation in Central Asia.
USAID is assisting Kazakhstan to increase energy sector cooperation with its Central Asian neighbors. Liana and her fellow graduate students—who come from around the region—will play a key role in shaping the future of energy in Central Asia.
“In my opinion, participating in the “Strategic Management in Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency” program at DKU will allow me to get an idea of further cooperation and interaction between countries in the renewable energy sector. This is an important advantage for my future career,”- Liana Baiseit.
