On November 7, USAID Regional Mission Director Luis Rivera participated in the historic “Central Asia on the way to the 28th Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC: 5 countries – 1 region – 1 vote” regional forum in Astana, organized with USAID’s Power Central Asia activity support. Over 200 participants from the five Central Asian countries came together to strategize and to create a joint statement on behalf of the region in advance of COP28 scheduled to take place at the end of the month in Dubai.
In his remarks Mr. Rivera reiterated USAID’s commitment to developing low-carbon strategies and promoting clean energy transition in the region, harnessing its abundant potential for solar, wind, and hydropower generation.
Through the Power Central Asia Activity alone, USAID leveraged $2.2 billion in clean energy investments and facilitated the installation of 2,241 Megawatts of clean energy capacity.
