This September, USAID supported the Second Political Dialogue titled “Global Methane Pledge: World Experience and Kazakhstan” in Astana. The Policy Dialogue was organized jointly by the Committee on Ecology and Nature Management of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and the REC “Green Academy”, with the support of the European Union, USAID, and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

Highlights of the event included:

• In-depth insights on international experiences related to the Global Methane Pledge;
• A comprehensive review of outcomes from a country capacity assessment, conducted by both national and international experts;
• Engaging discussions led by distinguished policymakers, including the Deputy of the Mazhilis of the Parliament, Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources, and Vice-Minister of Energy.

USAID’s Power Central Asia team presented opportunities for methane emissions reduction specifically within Kazakhstan’s energy sector.
